Eltayeb Dawelbait

Born in 1967 in Kosti, Sudan, Eltayeb Dawelbait is a graduate of the College of Fine Arts in Khartoum. He is considered one of the most talented Sudanese artists based in Nairobi.

Discarded wood and sheets of metal are his canvas. His mysterious creations are a collage of old doors and kitchen drawers, hinges and rusty metal plates. He scratches, carves and paints them into three dimensional portraits of ancient faces, heavy with severity. He has exhibited in Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, as well as Art Fairs in Monaco and London.

Eltayeb was recently chosen to create the largest ever commissioned art work in Kenya in the foyer of the capital´s PWC Towers. He has chosen Nairobi as his home, the political situation in Sudan having led to his life in exile.
